Sign up now for the 5th Annual LITTLE EDEN CEO Wheelchair Campaign®

27th Jan 2022Breaking NewsDerrick Markotter

Calling all company CEOs and Directors: our popular Wheelchair challenge returns in 2022. And we’re counting on you to make it bigger and better than ever!

With Covid-19 restrictions easing, many people are now working at the office again. Your decision to spend a work day in a wheelchair (either at the office or at home) will help create awareness around disability. Plus you’ll help raise much needed funds towards the care of children and adults with profound intellectual disability at LITTLE EDEN Society.

Well over half of the special angels in our care have physical disabilities as well as intellectual disability. For them, a wheelchair is the only way to move from place to place. Most lack the strength and ability to propel themselves. They rely on staff to wheel them out into the sunshine … or to the day room for speech, physio and music therapy. Residents who lack mobility are also bathed, fed and dressed every day. Most also require frequent nappy changes.

As you can imagine, this level of care is costly. Over 70% of the children and adults at LITTLE EDEN have been abandoned or come from indigent families who can’t contribute towards their care. But we care for them because they deserve the chance to find joy in life, despite their limitations.

We hope to raise R1.5 million towards these costs through the campaign. And, because it is LITTLE EDEN’s 55th birthday this year, we ask you to make a donation of R55 000 (large companies) or R35 000 (smaller companies) to sponsor your participation.

Previous Wheelchair Campaign participants

Previous participants include CEOs of Discovery Limited, Multotec, Mix Telematics, Mandate Molefe, Boake Inc, Flender and Munsoft. They describe the experience as “humbling”, “life-changing” and “exhausting”. This year, why not participate and try it for yourself?

You’ll be provided with a wheelchair and invited to spend any work day during March in it. If you are still working from home, no problem. Simply spend your work day in the wheelchair at home. Please share your experience on social media to help create awareness of the challenges faced by people with disabilities – and challenge others to participate as you have.

Your company will gain valuable tax and BBBEE benefits. Plus you’ll contribute to improving the lives of the most vulnerable members of society – children and adults with profound intellectual disability.

For more information or to participate in the campaign, please contact Zai Miller by calling 011 609 7246 or email [email protected].

If you can’t accept the challenge in your current work environment, please consider making a donation of any amount towards the care of our special angels. Thank you.

P.S. Your company will gain valuable tax and BBBEE benefits. Plus, you’ll contribute to improving the lives of the most vulnerable members of society – children and adults with profound intellectual disability.
