What is a Certificate of Origin?

A certificate of origin is an important international trade document that certifies that goods in a particular export shipment are wholly obtained, produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country. It also serves as a declaration by the exporter.

Why are Certificates of Origin important?

A certificate of origin is essential in international trade transactions because it is the proof
certifying the origin of the product, which is in turn the basis to determine the tariffs and other trade measures that will be applied.

Be sure to have the correct documentation before you import or export. One of the most important documents you will need is the certificate of origin. To obtain a certificate of origin your product needs to be “wholly obtained” or “sufficiently processed” in the country from which you are applying for the certificate of origin.

Electronic Certificates Of Origin

Electronic certificates of origin are not only a means to facilitate and provide a secure trading environment but also save time, costs and increase transparency. The Randburg Chamber can provide both paper and electronic certificates.

What documentation do I need to provide?

  • Original Commercial Invoice, not a tax invoice
  • Copy of the Company registration document
  • Letter of Authority (template available upon request)
  • Formal Undertaking (template available upon request)

The Chamber may request additional supporting documentation if necessary.

Certificates of Origin Training

The Randburg Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) holds various training courses on Certificates of Origin and the rulings or Incoterms, during the year. Please contact the Chamber offices to find out when the next training course will be held.

Printing per page (if required) R50.00
A surcharge of R5.00 per additional page for stamping
will be charged if the number of pages exceeds 9 pages

Any extra pages required to be printed i.e. Commercial Invoices, packing lists etc.) are
R50 per page.

Attestation/stamping of COO document for chamber members is R175.00 maximum 9 pages.

More than 9 pages are R5.00 extra per page.

  • The total cost depends on the number of pages attested.
  • Stamping only, with previously purchased COO pads, is R175.00 per COO
  • Electronic COO R175.00

COO RATES FOR NON-MEMBERS:
Manual COO:

  • Certificate of Origin (COO)
    R90 for three(3) pages
  • Printing of COO docs
    R150  (R50 per page)
  • Attestation/stamping of COO
    R250 for 9 pages.
    • More than 9 pages are at R5.00 extra per page.
    • The total cost depends on the number of pages to be attested.
  • Stamping only, with previously purchased COO pads, is R250 per COO.
  • Electronic COO R250.00

OTHER INFO:
Any electronic certificate of Origin and their documents that require the chamber seal and stamp for:
MEMBERS is at R5.00 per page
NON MEMBERS is at R10 per page

  • This is over and above the cost of the electronic COO cost.
  • Any manual COO document that required the Commercial Invoice and the Packing list to receive the manual seal and stamp will also be tendered at R5.00 extra per page.
