The Covid-19 pandemic has required a rapid response from all parties in South Africa, including business. Since the lockdown announcement, there have been many important questions that require urgent answers. As such, attached is a Q&A which constitutes our expectations as to how the business lockdown will take effect. It is not an official document, but intended to bring some clarity to businesses in the interim. We appeal to all businesses to respect the importance of the lockdown. Sacrifices will need to be made in the broader interests of the country and our people.
As a quick update, a Project Management Office (PMO), led by several specialists who are coordinating the response to the Covid-19 crisis, has been established and is fully operational. The PMO is set up with strong executive sponsorship and leadership from various business stakeholders.
The PMO has been established with four foundational Workgroups, including:
· Healthcare [led by Stavros Nicolaou];
· Economy [Martin Kingston];
· Labour market [Rob Legh]; and
· Communications [Busi Mavuso and Phumzile Langeni].
Critical support activities are also being carried out for, amongst others, tax, legal, supply chain, logistics, and business continuity management.
Additional information and an update will be issued very shortly from the PMO.
