ENERGY PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATES WEBINAR SYNOPSIS
On 8 December 2020 it became mandatory for building owners to display and submit an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for their building. The regulation requires companies with a GLA threshold of +2000m2 office buildings to obtain EPCs before the closing date of 7 December 2022.
Energy Performance Certificates for buildings indicate how much energy is being used to operate a building. The EPC displays the energy consumption per square meter of a building. This energy performance is measured against a benchmark based on two factors:
- The building occupancy class, and
- The energy zone of where the building is located.
The purpose of EPC:
- To Inform building owners/facility managers about energy performance of their building.
- EPCs is used as a tool to indicate the energy performance against a performance scale indicating how bad or good the energy performance of the building is.
Penalties for non-compliance will not exceed R5 million.
The purpose of this webinar is to educate and/or alert the members of
the Randburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry about this regulation.
