SUMMARY:Managing ADHD In The Workplace
DESCRIPTION:RCCI invites you to a talk on managing ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) in the work place.\nDate: Wednesday 13 March 2019\nTime: 08h30 – 10h00 (Dave will be available for questions after the talk)\nWhere: RCCI Offices\, 272 Oak Avenue\, Unit G8\, Atrium Terraces\, Randburg\, Gauteng\nCost: R50 to cover refreshments (payable at the door)\nRSVP: Danie Bezuidenhout (RCCI President) – busdev.danie@rcci.co.za (booking is essential) \nWhy a talk on ADHD in the Workplace?\nApproximately 10% of any workforce\, regardless of gender or ethnicity\, will have ADHD and managers need to know how to get the best from them. \nADHD is not only about hyperactive naughty children and Ritalin. \nIt is a neurological condition that you are born with and is highly inheritable. You do not grow out of ADHD. The best option is to learn to manage the condition consistently. \nFour out of five children with ADHD have at least one ADHD Parent who has the condition. \nMany entrepreneurs have ADHD as they tend to be mavericks\, rule breakers\, innovative\, super bright and conform with great difficulty – if at all – to the corporate culture. \nFor business\, this has important consequences. \nSome ADDers are physically hyperactive\, others are day dreamers\, while most are a combination of the two extremes. \nUnderstanding why people with ADHD struggle with issues such as time\, (always late) boredom\, (can’t finish tasks)\, structure (can’t plan their day)\, volatility (unexplained rages) will help Managers to manage their teams better. \nThere are many myths and misconceptions about ADHD and the most common ones revolves around medication. \nAround 80% of all addicts (drugs\, alcohol\, eating disorders\, gambling\, sex\, shopping\, gaming\, social media etc) have ADHD but this is not due to an addiction to ADHD medication. Instead ADDers self-medicate with substances\, alcohol and other destructive behaviour to calm their hyperactive brains and deal with low self- esteem and anxiety. \nOur speaker on this important topic is Dave Pughe-Parry the founder of Living ADDventure®. (https://livingaddventure.com) \nAbout Dave Pughe-Parry\nDave has a background in journalism where he was a hard news photographer and journalist on the Rand Daily Mail and The Star and a contributor to international media. He moved on to advertising\, industrial theatre\, audio visuals and managing a film and video production company before being diagnosed with ADHD in his mid-40s. \nDetermined to help other ADDers and their families live contented and productive lives\, Dave pioneered ADHD Coaching in South Africa and he has developed online and offline training courses\, workshops and conferences for business\, parents\, educators\, medical professionals and families. \nOver the past 15 years\, Dave has trained more than 6000 teachers and worked with hundreds of families who have battled with ADHD. He has also been a popular speaker at Educational and other conferences around the country. \nThere is no magic bullet to managing ADHD\, a multi-disciplinary approach and Living ADDventure® advocates a multi-disciplinary approach to treating ADHD. \nThe Living ADDventure ADHD Treatment Wheel\n  \n
