China’s engagement of Africa over the past decade has undoubtedly been the leading “megatrend” of the continent. China’s engagement is rapidly re-shaping Africa’s economic landscape. The speed at which Chinese firms are growing their businesses in Africa is proof of the positive environment of business for Chinese capital that Africa provides. China is now the single largest trading partner of Africa, the largest financier of infrastructure through its “policy-banks” and is the largest lender to African governments. African states and companies are now having to come to terms with both the enabling and disruptive nature of Chinese capital. How should Africa engage and what strategies should African companies craft to best leverage China’s pervasive engagement? How is Chinese investment shifting from state-owned enterprises to private firms? Is the playing field level and who is benefitting the most? These themes amongst others will be discussed by leading thought-leaders and practitioners engaged in China-Africa commerce.
The China Africa Business Forum is a one-day high-level conference held annually in Johannesburg bringing together leading decision-makers from Chinese and African companies.
