From 1 April 2017 to 30 June 2017 the COJ will grant amnesty to any person who reports an “irregular” electricity supply (ie stolen meter, bypassed meter, fraudulent meter installed by non-City Power approved contractors, or a simple by-pass with no meter at all).
According to the COJ’s website the offenders will not be hit with any penalty at all. It appears that consumers who have been using power without paying for it, will not have to pay anything at all, if they apply to regularize their supply in terms of this amnesty.
The website explains how to apply:
“To apply for the amnesty, customers are required to provide their City of Johannesburg rates and taxes statement not older than three months, a valid identity document, stand number and meter number. Customers can apply for the amnesty at City Power’s head office in 40 Heronmere Road, Reuven, Booysens, in Johannesburg.”
I trust that you will find this useful.
